The first Ruby Calloway novel, "Lightning Blade" was great. Then I read "Bone Realm", the collection of shorts that fill out Ruby's backstory and the interim spaces between the novels: also great! 2nd novels, like sequel movies, never seem to be as good as the original, but "Shadow Flare" did not disappoint at all. Great action, great story, the world building and character development are both tight... what's not too love?! If you like a bit of magic in your dystopian future, you can't go wrong. If you are into the clash when supernatural meets mortal, this is it. I am looking forward to the next novel (starting in a few minutes)!Product details

So glad I decided to keep reading! Can't wait to see how things turn out for Ruby, Roarke and Malcolm.
This second book in the trilogy is as action packed and wonderful as the first. Different baddies but the same badass Ruby!
Actually liked this one more than the first. Unusual for me. Reads easy , it has the timing just right. Great storytelling. Thanks.
Fantastic read with lots of twists, turns, and unexpected happenings. A thoroughly enjoyable read fast paced leading up to an exciting ending.
Book 2 of 3. Just enough chaos and mystery that it's a good easy read with plenty of both political conflict and emotional. Looking forward to see where book 3 goes.
I have to admit I'm not always sure who is the good or bad guy...most of the time you're left with whose the worst right now. I tend to agree with a you reap what you sow philosophy and that's true again and again in these books.
I liked this one less than I liked volume 1 of the series. Some new takes on supernaturals. A new archenemy. Some change in the characters and their relationships. Some new, interesting characters. Good and bad humans. Good and bad sups. Sometimes hard to tell the good from the bad. Not as good as 1 but it was still a good read. Be sure to read book 1 first though. This is a series that must be read in order.
